Cha-cha-changes

Wow, I am utterly amazed at just how much she has changed since Wednesday night. She has put on some weight and her coat is starting to change. I can't tell if she's going to be sable or a red and white corgi. Her blue eyes are starting to change to this odd muddy green color. I'm expecting them to be brown any day.

Apparently, her ears perked up first out of the litter. She did it at a young age way before the actual time that most corgi's ears perk. She's a smart girl the ears tell it so! Actually, she's smart enough to come. She some how understood that command without me ever teaching her. Win!

So far, her potty training is going. We are crate training her. I take her to work with me every morning and sneak away to drop her off at "Grandma's" house since my mom lives close enough to my job for me to check up on her.

Actually, the little girl got to go to work with me twice. The first time cause I never asked my mom if it was ok and the second cause she had her vet visit.

Wow, I never heard a dog cry so much during a fecal sample. She was fine afterwards, but to her credit, the guy looked like he kind of jammed it in her. I've never dealt with that guy before but I do like the vet. I paid 17 bucks for Advantage multi for her fleas and 60 plus for the actual visit.

Now, comes the training. Sigh...she will be smart. I've already talked to a dog trainer who charges around 60 bucks for a 6 to 8 week period. If that doesn't work out, there is always petsmart.

On the super good news, our Weimaraner loves her! He checks up on her all the time. He peers over her 45 gallon tub and just looks. Sometimes he will jump on the bed and just look at her.

I'll have to post more pictures on flickr soon.

The Puppy Fever

I've had puppy fever for the last year. I've always wanted a puppy of my own and a puppy that I picked out instead of my parents. I grew up with dachshunds, chihuahuas, and finally chugs (chihuahua/pug mix.)

In November, we had Morningstar (my mom's chug) over for a week in efforts to get her to lose weight. She did, but sadly not long. My mom made her gain more weight. Sadness.

Anyway, I've been looking into mini dachshunds and corgis. I initially wanted to adopt a rescue or a shelter dog but things didn't really work out on that end--so upwards and onwards on the search.

It took me nearly a month to find a breeder for a corgi. Then on wednesday, December 17th we drove 3 hours north to get our little girl--Freya.

Looking

I'm following the trend of writing my pursuits for a puppy and my growing experience during it. I've wanted my own dog for a long time. I, unlike some, have grown up with dogs--just the toy breeds. I wanted a big dog. I wanted a rottweiler or a great pyrenees or a golden retriever or a newfoundland--anything but a chihuahua. I've had more chihuahuas growing up than any other breeds. Until, my mom got a chihuahua/pug mix which was the best dog I've met so far.
