An Early Ending

I haven't been well enough to focus on Morningstar as much as I wanted to this month. As a result, she's going home a little earlier than I intended for two reasons: I'm going to have two procedures and having to worry about all the dogs getting along isn't going to help me and the second is Morningstar bit my boyfriend. She didn't break the skin (this time--the last time was during the epic Freya/Morningstar fight) but managed to red mark him a bit.

It is my decision to take her back home and she has a Vet appointment that following Monday so it's easier this way. I just think it's bad timing. I think at the beginning of the year I'm going to try fat camp with Angel. I hope I will have more success with her. Eventually, I'll get Morningstar again.

Honestly, I haven't figured out how people can have more than two dogs. I haven't figured out how to balance three dog's needs let alone two of them.

  1. I am working on two dogs and I find it difficult. I am sorry it didn't work out, it is hard when you have a pack already with routines and then you introduce a new dog with their own routines.

I hope you feel better and that it isn't too serious.

  2. So sorry to hear you have so many woes to deal with! If it makes you feel any better, the difference between having 2 and having 3 dogs is immense (so is 4-5 for that matter). They start to take sides and gang up on the most submissive of the pack. It takes real vigilance, intuition and just the right group of dogs for everyone to be happy!!

  3. Michelle's got THAT right! The more dogs the more pack order becomes important! Adding an older dog that is used to having it's own way CAN be a big problem! I'm hoping that by adding puppies, they will be tolerated better and fall into a natural order that will be lower than the older dogs, but I'm noticing already that certain pups (Mercy in particular) is already alpha among the pups and she barks back at OC when she wants something OC's got, so I'm having to step in an enforce that fact that OC is top dog under me!

I can't stress enough that dogs can't all be treated "equally." You have to understand and stick with the pecking order. Feed treats/give attention to alpha first, etc.
